3 more days till Puerto Rico…
Posted by: maradavis @ 3:33 pm

Some friends (thx Susan and Mark!) invited us to the Suntrust club in Turner Field at the Braves game last night.  This is like the Ritz Carlton of Braves seats.  You literally sit right behind home plate right next to the Braves dugout.  To top it off they serve up 5 star food non stop.  It was really weird eating soft shell crab right before a baseball game (but good!).  We enjoyed every minute knowing that this would be the last time we’d experience something like this.  The next time we see a game we’ll be in nosebleed section, as usual.

Today we took Charlie to Imagine it, Atlanta’s Children’s museum.  I’m trying to be better about finding “family fun” activities and so far I think we’ve been successful.  He had a ball and we were entertained too.  BTW Thanks to everyone who’s had sleeping advice for my brat, I mean love of my life.  Things are improving slightly but I’m still tired as ass.   Thank god he’s starting to get off Dragon Tales and is moving on to Bob the Builder (what’s he watching right now).  This doesn’t seem as bad as DT which is just awful.  I can’t get that fucking song out of my head, “dragon tales, dragon tales, it’s almost time for dragon tales”.  UGH

Only 3 more days till Puerto Rico!!  I don’t care if it rains everyday—I just want to sleep in till 11AM!!  Whooo hoooooooooo!!

OMG I am so tired.

Charlie is the light of my life but he was up all night wanting to watch fucking Dragon tales and movies.  I’m sorry for my foul language but this is what sleep deprivation does to you.  Once I’m finished writing this I am going to take a nap so I can host my “gambling girls night out” party.  Dave listeners registered to win passes to the party and ultimately 5 people will win a trip to the Golden Moon Casino with me next month.  That is going to be a trip to remember—me and 10 listeners in Choctaw, Mississippi.  Hot stuff.

In other news, I went to see the movie “Tropic Thunder” yesterday to prep for an interview next week.  The movie was HILARIOUS and I can’t wait for you to see it when it comes out in August.  This is best thing Ben Stiller has done in years and I laughed my ass off.  One of the up and coming stars, Brandon T. Jackson is coming on my show next Monday to promote the film.  He’ll be on in the 10AM hour.

OK did anyone watch Project Runway?  Is it me or did it kind of suck?  I don’t think the people are as talented as they were in seasons past.  Of course I’ll still be watching so who really cares.

Also, thanks for giving me some blog postings.  I apologize if I don’t always respond back.  Sometimes I don’t know what the hell to do.  I’ll just keep blaming everything on getting no sleep.  Ugh.  ;)

Family Fun Day
Posted by: maradavis @ 9:18 am

Since Mike didn’t have to work this weekend I insisted that we have a “family fun day”. So we got up early (duh) and took Charlie to Cagles Dairy Farm. This place is really cute and we can’t wait to go back in the fall when they have the corn maze. On the way home we stopped at Muss and Turners  for lunch which is always delicious. After our exciting day with cows and livestock we decided that we needed “adult” family fun time—- so we ditched Charlie and went to see Chris Rock at the Fox. It felt so good to laugh for 2 hours straight–he was great. There’s nothing else too exciting to report except that Mike and I are planning a trip to Puerto Rico in a few weeks. If you’ve ever been and have some tips post them here. Meanwhile—NOBODY posts anything here. Am I that boring? ;)

Where to eat…
Posted by: maradavis @ 7:24 am

Have you tried any new restaurants lately?  Check out some of these places we’ve been to recently:

Parish:   You have to try this place!   Go with the small plates and salads (we loved the sausages).  I loved the little store downstairs.  If you have time stop by Jac Boutique www.dearjac.com which is right across the street.

Eddie’s Attic
:  Who knew they had such phenomenal food?  I am in love with their sliders and sweet potato fries. Plus if you sit on the patio you can see whatever is playing in the main music room.

Fox Brothers BBQ
: We went there this weekend and it was delicious as usual.  The wings are to die for.

Yoforia
: I love this stuff.  It’s fro-Yo that’s sorta good for you if you don’t put oreos and shit on top of it (which I did this weekend).

Vine:  If you are planning a nice meal with good wine this spot is solid.

Murphy’s
for dessert. Most people think about Murphy’s for brunch but I think dinner is much better. No offense to them but you can beat the wait weekends and go to La Tavola instead.

Have you been anywhere new lately?  If you have someplace great that you’ve tried post it here!

Great guests at Dave FM!
Posted by: maradavis @ 10:15 am

I may not be sleeping well but I have been having fun with guests at Dave-FM.  First, here’s a shot with me and John Hiatt from our Circle of Friends a few weeks ago.  If you’ve never seen John live, check him out at the Atlanta Botanical Garden  Friday night July 11th.  I think he’s one of the greatest singer songwriters ever.  You can see the performance at edave.com on the “circle” page.

Here’s me with Vern Yip—I love this guy, he is soooo nice.  When he came to the studio everyone was freaking out to meet him.  Our receptionist Janet called me to announce his arrival practically in tears.  Funny, right?  See the segment of me and Vern at edave.com.

Here is a shot with me and R & B superstar Robin Thicke who stopped by the V103 studios.  I was totally impressed by this guy.  We did a quick segment with him out of the blue and he was great.

Friday afternoon Bob Saget came in and he was hilarious.  I’ve had Bob in before so the interview felt like hanging out with an old friend.  Later in the day the glamorous Jackie Collins came in to chat about her new book “Married Lovers”. She was hysterical and I had a blast basking in her fabulousness.
(Video of these segments posted on edave.com this week)

Finally here is a photo of two hot studs.  One of which woke my ass up at 5:20 this morning (Charlie’s on the left, my nephew Fredrick is on the right).  Now that’s glamorous!  Ugh!  I’m tired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey hey!  Charlie is going through a weird sleeping phase this week.  I bring this up b/c if you’ve heard me act a little freaky on my show it’s b/c I’m super sleep deprived.  Wah, wah, wah—like you fucking care.  In interview news, yesterday I talked to the great Vern Yip—-you can see the video on my page at www.edave.com.  Today Bob Saget and Jackie Collins are coming in—more details and pictures from them later (video on Edave too!).  Have a great weekend!!

Back from Pinehurst

Posted by: maradavis @ 10:03 pm

Hi!  We’re back from Pinehurst and everyone was right—-there is NOTHING to do but play golf.  It was nice to have the family together and the boys (Charlie and my nephew Frederick) had a blast.  Since hitting the links is not my thing my sister in law Ashley and I went into “town”.  There was one cute boutique where we bought a few things.  While Ashley was wrapping up I asked the sales girl if I could use the restroom.  Her reply? “We can’t, you can go down the street to the cafe, although they may not be open. Sorry!”  What?  Really?  Um, do you remember five minutes ago I just bought something?  Do I look like a terrorist that’s going to stink up your bathroom? WTF??  Wow—what a friendly town! ;)

This weekend we’re headed to Pinehurst, NC for Mike’s family reunion.  The group
has all kinds of activities planned including golf, which is from what I hear is
the main thing to do there.  If anyone has suggestions of stuff to do in
Pinehurst, pass it on!  Otherwise I’ll talk to you next week about the family
madness, I mean joy!

Ludacris and “Straits”
Posted by: maradavis @ 8:19 am

How random!!  My pals the Fishmans gave me a heads up that Ludacris would be doing photo shoot at their amazing contemporary house.  Luda is busy promoting his new restaurant Straits  so Food and Wine magazine decided to do a story on him. While this was going on I interviewed Ludacris briefly during a break in the shoot.  He was extremely nice and so was his mother Roberta.  Everyone was having a blast pretending it was New Year’s Eve (the issue won’t come out until December).  There were all kinds of random people there including Amanda Davis from Fox 5, my pal Liz Lapidus and of course Chef Yeo from Straits.  We all had to be dressed up so we could pretend to party like it was 2009.  Elizabeth came and videotaped the whole thing so hopefully we can get it on www.edave.com.  I’ll keep you posted!

Vi-Hi Summerfest
Posted by: maradavis @ 8:23 am

This weekend we had a party at our house for Virginia Highland Summerfest.  Everyone had a blast and was raving about the food.  Mike had a great idea to order meat and tamales from Chicago Supermarket on Buford Highway (5263 Buford Hwy NE Doraville, GA 30340 (770) 452-1361).  Everything was excellent and dirt cheap.  I highly recommend this if you are doing a party for a large group.  We also served cupcakes from the Atlanta Cupcake Factory.   These cupcakes totally rock, definitely check them out!
To balance out all of this eating I’ve revved up my workout routine.  Monday I tried Pilates for the first time at Intown Pilates.  It felt great afterwards and I’d definitely do it again.  There’s also a new workout with something called “kettlebells” www.gymcondition.com.  This is really different and the work out was short (loved that!).  I’ve also been kickboxing with Richard Trammell at Trammell fitness.  I love this guy and I’ve never worked out harder in my life.  Meanwhile, with all of this exercising you’d think I’d be thin?  Guess I have to go easier on the tamales and cupcakes ;).  Ugh.

“Shine-a Light”

Thanks to everyone who came to “Shine a Light” at the Fox Theater this Thursday night.  Chuck Leavell is the greatest and we had the best time together.  I got the chance to interview him on stage and it was a hoot.  Just being on stage at the Fox in general is totally amazing.  This has been a good week for interviews—check out www.edave.com for video of my chat with Andrew Stanton the director of the new film Wall E (along with Finding Nemo, Toy Story and more).  Truth be told, it wasn’t my favorite Pixar film but I totally dug this guy.  Tim Meadows popped in yesterday to promote the Bill Engvall show and he was hilarious.  I really, really liked him (audio posted soon on the interview page and video of the chat also at www.edave.com).

Raves n’ Stuff

Recently we went to dinner at Home  which is where Richard Blais from Top Chef is working.  If you are a Top Chef fan you should definitely check it out—it was excellent.  We saw Richard but he wouldn’t tell us who won (I think he’s going to).  Another place we tried and really liked was Straits.  This new spot is part owned by Lucacris.  I thought the food was delicious—it’s Singaporean which is kinda like a mix of Malaysian, Indian and Thai.   If you are into cooking at home and you dig Indian check out www.moderndaymasala.com. It’s basically a really easy way to make Indian at home. One of my listeners (hey Kristin!) owns the company and she turned me on to it.  Last night we went to the Glenn Hotel for a party (happy b-day liz!) on the rooftop.  This place is ridiculously overpriced but the view of the city is fantastic.  Lots of boobs, botox, night sunglasses and stilettos here.  I would definitely check it out if you have stuff to do downtown.

Next week is a good week for interviews. Chuck Leavell will be stopping by to talk about “Shine a Light” the Rolling Stones documentary that we’ll be playing at the Fox Thursday night (www.929dave.fm for details). On Thursday I have Tim Meadows scheduled to come in (from SNL fame). Also, we’re gearing up for Virginia Highland Summerfest.  I hope to see you there!!

On a final note, check out this hot photo of me with Sisqo and his band Dru Hill (remember the Thong Song?). They were hilarious and thanks Miss Sophia for bringing them in. I totally look like I’m in the band, huh?

Memorial Day, etc.
Posted by: maradavis @ 11:44 pm

Last Thursday night I was asked to attend a party for a
woman named Becky Springer.  To make a long story short—Becky got a rare case
of the flu that almost killed her.  She had to have her hands and feet amputated
to save her life.  After this happened her friends pulled together to have a
fund raiser for her.   A woman named Susan (whats up girl) reached out to me via
email to explain the situation.  She asked me to co-host an event with the help
of her neighbor Cindy Wilson from the B52’s.  Meanwhile, I had no idea she lived
in town—and in Dunwoody!  Cindy and her husband donated some great stuff for a
live auction which was the hit of the party.  It was so great to see these women
pull together for their pal Becky,  I was truly moved by the whole thing.  You
ladies in the suburbs really know how to party for a great cause!  I will keep
you posted on Becky’s condition—-she is in rehab now in Chicago and will be
back soon.  Cindy Wilson was on my show today and was FANTASTIC!  The audio will
be posted soon.

Last Friday afternoon I schlepped out to Cumming for a
Memorial Day promotion with the station.  Thanks to everyone at Jax package
store who were so nice to me.   Here is the best part—-I finally got a
billboard!  Check out the great advertising on this kick ass display.  You know
my huge ego loved this shit—–even if it does look like something you’d see in
Spinal Tap (i.e this totally rocks).  I met some nice people as you can see from
this guy.  He was so sweet and had no idea who we were.  I don’t know why I
wanted a pic with him, it must have been the “America” T shirt.   Perfect for
Memorial Day (pictures will follow soon).

I hope you had a great holiday!!!

Babs Walters!
Posted by: maradavis @ 10:27 am

Recently I’ve asked my ex intern and fabulous assistant Elizabeth to  step her game at work.  Who knew she would come through with a  Barbara Walters interview?!?!  BW was doing a talk last night at  Agnes Scott and had a media round table discussion beforehand.   There was only a guy from the AJC there and some other print people.  Babs walks into the room looking absolutely stunning.  She is very  striking in person, especially for a woman her age.  Her publicist  warned us beforehand to “not ask the same typical questions you’ve  heard in the media the past 2 weeks”.  We were thinking that meant  Star Jones, Rosie O Donnell and the Senator she had an affair  with.  The press has been having a field day with this juicy  stuff.  PS it’s totally helped to sell shitloads of her book  called
“Audition”.  Ms Walters was really kind and open so I was  scared to ask some of the racier questions that Elizabeth wrote like  “is it true once you go black you never go back?”.  Nice.  I  did get to ask who she liked better the Beach Boys or the Beatles (The  Beatles), how did she manage to get the dirt from celebs (by asking  about family stuff), what she would name a nightclub b/c her dad was in  the biz (Oui Oui club), did she need another replacement for The View  (she totally blew that one off b/c it was during the picture taking), and a few more.  KUDOS to Elizabeth for making this cool  experience happen.  Nice work bitch—you are really going to have  to work hard to top this one ;).   Once I get the piece  edited I will post it here.

Posted by: maradavis @ 6:31 pm

This week has been so busy and great! I love having so
many great guests and interviews.  Check out the
interview page for new audio with Alton Brown (from
the Food Network) and Sheryl Crow.  Alton was just
TERRIFIC.  He was really on his game and we had a ball
together.

Today I made the Peach Buzz for the whole Oprah
experience.  Read it here:
accessatlanta.com/peachbuzz

Love it!!!!
So I watched the episode this afternoon and you can
see me for like a second.  The yellow jacket that I
bought really stood out—-but only if you were
looking reeeeeeeeaaaaally closely ;).  Who cares
though—I’ve gotten a lot of miles out of the story it and
it is now retired (yeah right!).  Ha!

Jane Fonda in the studio
Posted by: maradavis @ 9:03 am

The past couple of weeks have been packed with guests and I’m  totally into it.  Today Jane Fonda came in and she was  great.   I knew I’d have to give it an extra spark as  Jane can be a challenging interview.  She was on her  blackberry non stop which I called her out on immediately.  She  explained that the reason for this was to get the final touches ready  for the big event they are promoting this Monday night.  It’s all  to benefit G-Capp and you can find more info at gcapp.org.   Peter and Bridget Fonda will be there and so will Troy Garrity (Jane’s  son), Big Boi and Ludacris.  They are calling it 3 generations of  Fonda films and it actually sounds really cool.  I suggested she  star in Big Boi’s new video (one of the live auction items) which she  loved.  She said if that happens she’ll give me the credit for it  (yeah, like that’ll happen!).  You can hear the entire segment on  the interview page on maradavis.com.

BTW—it’s  the final countdown!  My Oprah show ;) is on this Thursday!   Whoo hooo!!   And P.S: Wednesday Alton Brown comes in and  Thursday I’ll air my Sheryl Crow interview.

Sheryl Crow and the monkey…
Posted by: maradavis @ 7:45 am

Yesterday I went to interview Sheryl Crow backstage at her show.   Elizabeth (my glorious assistant) and I were taken backstage while she  was doing a sound check.  I gotta admit—-I was pretty  nervous.  I looooove Sheryl so it was hard to play it cool.   Once sound check was over she came in ready to go.  Sheryl is  teeny tiny, really pretty and was all business.  She was a bit  guarded (but nice) which is totally understandable.  It wasn’t a  bad interview, it’s just not the greatest by my standards.  There  was nothing funny or super revealing about it (what I strive for  ;)).  Towards the end I could hear her baby crying backstage and  could sense her tensing up.  Surprisingly this became the most  real part of my experience with her.  I gave her a monkey from  BlaBla (blablakids.com) that I brought for her son Wyatt.  I  told her that I give one to every new mom I know and it’s Charlie’s  favorite.  She opens it and suddenly becomes very animated and  making monkey sounds.   As we were leaving we run into her holding Wyatt (ADORABLE) with the monkey.  He was hugging it and  totally loving it.  At this moment I was dying to take a picture  of this b/c it was beyond cute (and you know I’m not a kid person).  Of course I knew that this would not be cool so I just  said “Mom, you can put the monkey in the washer and dryer” and she got  a good laugh.  Sheryl may not remember me for doing the greatest  interview—-but she’ll always remember the monkey!!

THANK YOU Margot for making this happen—she’s been working on this  for-EVA.  Also, thanks to Susan and Erica at BlaBla for the monkey—-they moved mountains to make that  happen (long story!)!  Oh and one more shout out to my friend  Peter Stroud (below with Elizabeth and me).  He is Sheryl’s main guitar player who hung out to  say hi (he’ll be on my show later this week).  The Sheryl Crow  interview should be posted later this week on the interview page.

Tom Cruise….OY.

Did you see Tom Cruise on Oprah?  What a freak—the
whole thing tripped me out but I couldn’t stop
watching.  In a way it was a bit boring b/c everything
he said was so rehearsed.  There’s a part 2 Monday and
you know I’ll be watching that shit.  While witnessing
the crazy I noticed they changed the date of the
Oprah, Tina, Cher show to this Thursday.  Please make
a note of it (or not!)!  Going to meet Sheryl Crow
today!  Whoo hooo!!
